The High-Risk Breast Cancer Nurse Practitioner is a specialized healthcare team member dedicated to managing individuals at increased breast cancer risk. Daily duties include leading risk assessments for personal or family breast cancer histories and hereditary syndromes. Serve as primary coordinator with breast surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, and genetic counselors for seamless multidisciplinary care. Deliver targeted education on risk, surveillance, lifestyle modifications, and interventions. Communicate complex genetic and imaging results with clarity and sensitivity.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience working as a WHNP in a clinical setting preferred
  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current, unrestricted Minnesota RN license
  • Strong background in oncology, hereditary cancer syndromes, and high-risk patient management
  • Demonstrated competency in providing comprehensive women’s health services
  • Experience in genetic counseling and risk assessment for breast cancer
  • Ability to prescribe and manage preventive and endocrine risk-reducing therapies

Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments and genetic counseling for individuals with personal or family history of breast cancer or hereditary syndromes
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized high-risk surveillance and risk-reduction care plans
  • Serve as primary point of coordination between breast surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, genetic counselors, and other specialists
  • Deliver targeted education and counseling to patients and families on hereditary breast cancer risk and preventive interventions
  • Oversee high-risk clinic follow-up, including surveillance scheduling and referrals for advanced imaging
  • Order, interpret, and act upon advanced laboratory, imaging diagnostics, and genetic testing
  • Communicate complex genetic testing results, imaging findings, and pathology reports to patients
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of risk assessments, care plans, and patient outcomes
