The Triage Nurse answers incoming phone calls regarding patients at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute. This role supports world-class cancer care by consulting clinical leadership to address concerns and direct patients appropriately across the network.

Daily work centers on presenting patient problems to the Head Nurse or physician and resolving issues or routing calls correctly. The position utilizes innovative clinical research and advanced treatments to serve oncology patients in a community setting.

Requirements

Registered Nurse, licensed in the State of Residence.
Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital.
Current CPR certification.
BLS required upon hire or must be obtained within 30 days of employment (FCS will provide BLS course within first 30 days).

Responsibilities

Answers incoming phone calls regarding patients.
Consults with Head Nurse and/or physician to present patient’s problem.
Resolves patient problems or directs calls to the appropriate person.
Assesses oncology symptoms reported during triage calls and determines urgency.
Documents all patient interactions and care coordination notes in the medical record.
Provides guidance on treatment side effects and when to seek immediate care.
Coordinates follow-up appointments and referrals with the oncology care team.
