The Registered Nurse (RN) in Urgent Care delivers nursing care for patients across their life span through the nursing process. This involves assessing, planning, implementing, and documenting the effects of care within the urgent care setting.
Care is provided to occupational health patients including physicals, drug screens, and injury care, as well as patients arriving with acute illness or injury. The RN works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient-team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice per Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
Opportunities include functioning as a professional role model, participating in unit-based Performance Improvement, and maintaining responsibility for professional development through in-services and continuing education programs. The RN also supports unit goals, facilitates staff education, and manages daily operations within budget parameters.
Requirements
- Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the Registered Nurse
- Functions according to the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act, Hospital policy, Mission Statement, and Department of Nursing Philosophy
- Sit up to 2 hours per day; stand up to 8 hours per day; walk 6 hours per day
- Consistently lift, push and carry objects up to 10 lbs; frequently up to 75 lbs
- Transport patients weighing up to 400 lbs via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher with assistance
- Frequently stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulder level
- Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch
Responsibilities
- Delivers nursing care for patients across their life span through the nursing process, assessing, planning, implementing, and documenting effects of care
- Provides essential medical care to urgent care patients and occupational health patients including physicals, drug screens, and injury care
- Demonstrates knowledge of procedures done in the area and assists physician as indicated
- Performs in-depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients
- Formulates collaborative plans of care and identifies expected patient outcomes
- Implements, evaluates, and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan
- Organizes, coordinates, and prioritizes patient care consistently utilizing available resources
- Takes active role in unit-based Performance Improvement and supports unit goals
