About this role
Alfred Health is seeking an Endorsed Emergency Nurse Practitioner to join the Emergency, Virtual care and Outpatients (EVO) Program. This 12-month parental leave cover role is based at The Alfred, one of Victoria's busiest emergency departments, which sees approximately 75,000 patients annually.
In this role, you will practice autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to assess and manage patients across the emergency clinical context. You will exercise expert clinical judgment, including prescribing medications, ordering diagnostic investigations, and making direct referrals to other healthcare professionals.
The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre is a state-wide service providing timely, quality care to acutely unwell and injured Victorians. You will be an integral member of a dedicated team focused on delivering exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care across a large public health service.

Requirements
- Registered nurse with endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner
- Expert knowledge base and complex decision-making skills for expanded practice
- Clinical competencies for autonomous practice in an emergency setting
- Ability to prescribe medications and order diagnostic investigations
- Capacity to admit, discharge, and refer patients within clinical context
- Commitment to the Alfred Health Nursing Professional Practice Framework domains: Comprehensive Care, Workforce, Leadership, Professional Development, Research and Informatics
Responsibilities
- Practice in accordance with the Alfred Health Nursing Professional Practice Framework
- Assess and manage patients within the emergency clinical context using expert nursing knowledge and skills
- Prescribe medications and order diagnostic investigations as an extension to practice
- Directly refer patients to other health care professionals as needed
- Admit and discharge patients within scope of practice
- Provide absence from work certificates when clinically appropriate
- Collaborate with other health professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care
