About this role
The Staff Nurse II provides clinical care and uses coordination skills for every patient served in the Clinical Decision Unit. Nursing care is delivered using the Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy. This role coordinates with patients, families, and healthcare disciplines to ensure appropriate care meeting patient needs.
Staff Nurses perform all nursing functions efficiently per policies, procedures, Indiana Nursing Practice Act, and Synergy Model characteristics like clinical judgment and advocacy. They utilize the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, acknowledging physiological, psychological, spiritual, diversity, and cultural needs. Hourly rounds are conducted consistently to assess care and service.
The role promotes a healthy work environment, encouraging collaboration for excellence in patient care outcomes. Effective communication is demonstrated with staff, patients, families, physicians, and other departments. Participation in shared governance at unit and hospital-wide levels supports achievement of goals.
Professional development is pursued by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking educational offerings. Emergency situations are handled promptly, calmly, and professionally. Feedback on customer service issues is provided timely to appropriate leadership for service recovery.
Requirements
- Demonstrate synergy characteristics: clinical judgment, advocacy, caring practices, collaboration, systems thinking, response to diversity, clinical inquiry, and facilitation of learning
- Understanding of expected patients served in the Clinical Decision Unit
- Ability to coordinate with patient, family, and other healthcare disciplines
- Knowledge of Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy
- Proficiency in nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Compliance with Indiana Nursing Practice Act
- Customer service skills applied to professional practice
Responsibilities

- Conduct hourly rounds consistently within the shift to all patients or areas covered to assess care and service
- Handle emergency situations in a prompt, calm, and professional manner
- Participate in professional development by maintaining required competencies and identifying learning needs
- Demonstrate effective communication skills in working with staff, patients, families, physicians, and other departments
