You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma and manage donor adverse events. This includes reviewing laboratory test results and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. You work under the guidance of the Center Manager and Center Physician.

The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance from BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental, health and safety. You will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.

You can support vaccination programs and manage employee incidents as needed. When authorized, you may serve as a Pandemic Coordinator to support investigations of pandemic threats in the local community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
  • Current state licensure as an EMT or Paramedic
  • Familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry
  • Ability to manage informed consent and review laboratory test results
  • Knowledge of SOPs for medical emergencies and donor adverse events

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility including proper management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
  • Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies including donor transport to emergency care facilities.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings to donors or medical and technical issues including donor safety and eligibility.
  • Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health or ER while referring to EHS guidance.
  • Serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community.
