About this role

The Registered Nurse at Brigham and Women's Hospital Burn Trauma ICU is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients per Nursing Standards of Care. This role requires initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills for patients with complex needs. Nurses assume full responsibility for assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Day-to-day involves organizing patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating plans for specific assignments. Set priorities for patients with varying acuity while maintaining continuity through clear communication. Demonstrate knowledge of adult and geriatric patient growth and development.

In this environment, nurses document care comprehensively, develop educational and discharge plans, and evaluate effectiveness to achieve outcomes. Collaborate professionally with patients, families, colleagues, and other disciplines. Participate in unit-based quality improvement and provide a safe environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse licensed in Massachusetts
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing for newly licensed nurses
  • Demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills for patients with complex needs
  • Ability to effectively manage assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
  • Appropriate knowledge of growth and development of adult and geriatric patients
  • Awareness of potential infection risks and utilization of universal precautions
  • Professional interaction with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Upholds the ANA code of ethics and acts as a role model

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for specific patient assignments
  • Set priorities when organizing care for patients with varying acuity
  • Maintain continuity through clear and concise verbal and written communication
  • Document patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, concise, and compliant with standards
  • Develop comprehensive educational plans for patients and families using appropriate resources
  • Administer medications safely according to established policies and procedures
  • Perform nursing procedures safely and efficiently using equipment appropriately
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and participate in unit-based quality improvement programs
