In this role, you will interview surgical patients in person and via phone, prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care for acutely ill patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. You will also clear charts for surgery and assign pre-operative arrival times.
You will work collaboratively with anesthesia to clear patients for surgery and interact effectively with a wide range of people, including patients, families, physicians, and support services. The position requires floating to Pre/Post-op, ensuring continuity of care across the surgical continuum.

Requirements
- Clinically competent, computer literate, registered professional nurse
- Strong clinical knowledge and ability to develop patient care plans
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, physicians, and support services
- Ability to solve problems effectively yet tactfully and non-confrontationally
- Persistence and follow-up work needed to ensure complete patient preparation
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required for external applicants; internal ADN candidates may apply
Responsibilities
- Interview surgical patients and coordinate patient care, clearing charts for surgery
- Develop patient care plans in preparation for surgery using strong clinical knowledge
- Perform all aspects of patient care to optimize safety and reduce the likelihood of medical errors, incorporating National Patient Safety Goals
- Collaborate with Anesthesia to clear patients for surgery
- Review pre-op instructions for next-day surgery patients and obtain necessary documentation and supplies
- Assign pre-operative arrival times and notify patients at least one day in advance
- Maintain records and log books as required by policy and regulation
- Use results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in nursing practice
