About this role

As a Staff Nurse I in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at UI Health, you will provide direct patient care and take initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice.

You will verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, documenting accurately in the electronic medical record. You will recognize and treat cancer-related issues, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs while educating patients and families regarding treatment expectations.

UI Health is part of the University of Illinois Chicago and comprises a Joint Commission-accredited tertiary care hospital and outpatient clinics, along with the Mile Square Health Center network. You will collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to promote effective patient care and advocate for patients, families, and the nursing profession.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
  • Illinois residency required within 180 days of hire date.
  • Ability to complete orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
  • Proficiency in verifying and implementing medical orders accurately.
  • Skill in documenting in an electronic medical record.
  • Knowledge of cancer-related issues and treatment expectations.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and shared leadership principles.

Responsibilities

  • Complete required orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
  • Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and/or advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Share information and collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to promote effective patient care.
  • Recognize and treat cancer-related issues in the hematology/oncology clinic.
  • Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient needs.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment expectations and care plans.
  • Advocate for patients, families, significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrate commitment to nursing excellence through evidence-based practice and shared leadership.
