Methodist Health System, the region’s most established not-for-profit provider, has partnered with Acadia Healthcare to open a new 96-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Scheduled to open in June 2026, Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health Hospital will offer a full continuum of inpatient and outpatient care for adults, seniors, and youth. It addresses the region’s significant behavioral health bed shortage.

Join as a Full-Time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide medical evaluations and treatment of patients under the supervision of the Medical Director. Work collaboratively with medical and clinical staff per state licensure guidelines. Focus on inpatient behavioral health services including mood disorders, dual diagnosis, and geriatric psychiatry.

The skilled and patient-focused team operates in a facility blending small-town charm with city convenience near Omaha. Participate in programs like child and adolescent care, PHP/IOP, and ECT. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic attitude prioritizing patient safety.

This role supports expanded access to behavioral health services across Southwest Iowa and the Greater Omaha area. Contribute to a vital new facility with affordable living and strong community ties. Engage in on-call responsibilities to meet patient needs effectively.

Requirements

  • Master's in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner program
  • Clinical experience working with behavioral health patient population
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of limit setting, therapeutic boundaries, crisis management, therapeutic treatment, environment and patient care
  • Board Certified Nurse Practitioner
  • Licensed to practice in Iowa
  • DEA license
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Practicing Nurse Practitioner preferred

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat acute, episodic or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team
  • Participate in the formulation of patient Master Treatment Plan
  • Assess physical and psychiatric health of patient and formulate measures to meet patient needs
  • Chart clinical observation, evaluations and treatment of patient in required time according to facility guidelines
  • Communicate with physicians and other staff as necessary to provide quality care for patient
  • Encourage family involvement in patient care and respond to identified patient and family educational needs
  • Provide on-call responsibilities on scheduled basis directed by medical staff
  • Order, perform or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays; prescribe medication
