About this role

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner practices in a Magnet recognized tertiary academic Children's Hospital with Level One Pediatric Trauma Designation. Collaborates with the supervising physician to perform overlapping medical/surgical procedures for critically ill neonates. Provides age-specific and developmentally appropriate medical management consistent with educational preparation and standardized procedures.

Performs complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests. Documents subjective and objective data in the electronic medical record according to established policies. Keeps patients, families, and caregivers informed about the plan of care, hospital course, and follow-up.

Encourages active participation in care and demonstrates commitment to excellence by modeling institutional values. Serves as a preceptor for students and facilitates meaningful learning experiences. Represents nursing as an empowered profession embracing innovations to enhance patient outcomes.

Supports the journey to nursing excellence for Magnet Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of regulatory standards and ensures compliance. Practices within NP scope pursuant to standardized procedures, policies, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting or in a sub-specialty clinic environment
  • Minimum one year of experience in area of NP specialty preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of advanced practice nursing, clinical pathways, research, evidenced-based practice, healthcare quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory standards
  • Able to demonstrate excellence in bedside practice, manner and nursing professionalism
  • Able to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty
  • Able to read, write legibly, communicate in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality
  • Able to use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Able to think critically, work independently with minimal supervision, perform basic math and statistical functions

Responsibilities

  • Practice in collaboration with the supervising physician and perform overlapping medical/surgical procedures for specialty population of patients with critical acuity
  • Provide age-specific and developmentally appropriate medical management and coordination of patient care
  • Perform complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations
  • Document subjective and objective data and care in the electronic medical record according to established policies and procedures
  • Keep patient, family, and caregiver informed regarding plan of care, hospital course, post-operative plan, expected outcomes, and follow-up care
  • Encourage the patient, family and caregiver to ask questions and be active participants in their care
  • Serve as a preceptor for students and facilitate a meaningful learning experience
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of all applicable regulatory standards and ensure compliance with regulations
