The role splits equally between Recovery and Anaesthetics, providing skilled assistance and post-anaesthetic care to paediatric patients.

Assist medical staff in the safe administration of anaesthesia or sedation per PS08 2012 (ANZCA) Recommendations on the Assistant for the Anaesthetist. Deliver post-anaesthetic care ensuring best outcomes for critically ill young patients from Victoria and beyond. Maintain and check all anaesthesia equipment for availability and safety.

Requirements

  • Recent experience in an acute, medical, surgical, and/or speciality area of nursing
  • Previous experience in Recovery/PACU and/or Paediatrics
  • Post Graduate studies in Recovery/PACU
  • Evidence of ongoing Professional development
  • Paediatric Anaesthetic experience including Post Graduate qualification in Anaesthesia
  • Current National Criminal Record Check, or willing to obtain
  • Valid Working with Children Check

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled assistance to medical staff for the safe administration of anaesthesia or sedation as specified in PS08 2012 (ANZCA)
  • Deliver post anaesthetic care to paediatric patients
  • Ensure all equipment pertaining to the administration of anaesthesia is correctly maintained, checked and available for use
  • Work in partnership with Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Colleagues to ensure best outcomes for patients
  • Assist in paediatric anaesthesia procedures including induction and emergence
  • Monitor vital signs and recovery progress in PACU for young patients
