About this role
The PICU Nurse Practitioner delivers front-line care and coordination for complex, critically ill patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This role involves assessment, diagnosis, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, bedside procedures, and family-centered care for patients and families. The patient population includes neonatal and pediatric patients up to 21 years, covering trauma, emergency, and surgical services.
Daily responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams, and diagnosing health and developmental problems. Manage therapeutic regimens for acute and chronic diseases per approved guidelines, handle medical emergencies, and triage patient transport calls with consultation. Perform clinical and invasive procedures, demonstrating competence in skills like ABG, arterial line, central venous catheter/PICC placement, and intubation assistance.
Consult and collaborate with acute care providers and interdisciplinary team members during daily rounds on assigned inpatients. Make independent clinical decisions when required and demonstrate excellent communication skills while working with medical, surgical colleagues, staff, and trainees. Receive support from the Pediatric Intensive Care physician while caring for patients.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations. Teach medical students and resident physicians. Perform other duties as described by the department chair.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
- Minimum of one-year critical care experience in medical/surgical nursing, prefer pediatric experience
- Valid state license
- Current certification and maintain certification from a national certifying body (ANCC, AANP, etc.)
- Maintain PALS and ACLS certification

- Teach medical students and resident physicians
