About this role

Children's Mercy is recruiting Transport Staff Nurses for its Critical Care Transport team serving ambulance, air and ground missions. The CAMTS-accredited program operates from the only free-standing children’s hospital between St. Louis and Denver and supports facilities across Missouri, Kansas and beyond.

Staff nurses deliver direct patient care through assessment, intervention and stabilization of critically ill neonatal and pediatric transport patients. They manage approximately 6,000 annual transports that include ECMO, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, therapeutic cooling and maternal-fetal cases.

The RN/RT/EMT team works 24 hours a day, seven days a week from a communication center staffed by certified flight specialists. Cross-training across ground, rotor-wing and fixed-wing platforms ensures safe, efficient, family-centered care in every transport environment.

Requirements

  • Current RN license and clinical experience in neonatal or pediatric critical care
  • Ability to function within an RN/RT/EMT transport configuration
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays as part of a 24/7 operation
  • Commitment to maintaining required immunizations including seasonal influenza vaccine

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care through assessment, intervention and stabilization for the critically ill transport patient which promotes safety and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a positive relationship with referring and accepting healthcare providers and serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the healthcare team.
  • Promotes safe, efficient, family-centered care to transport patients across ground, rotor-wing and fixed-wing platforms.
  • Ensures continuation of patient care through accurate and timely documentation.
  • Responds to 24/7 transport requests and participates in the full range of neonatal and pediatric critical-care missions.
  • Operates specialized equipment including ECMO, high-frequency ventilators, nitric oxide delivery systems and therapeutic cooling devices during transport.
