About this role
Vail Health Behavioral Health at the Precourt Healing Center, an acute inpatient psychiatric facility, seeks a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant. This role assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental and physical aspects of psychological problems across adolescent and adult populations. It reports to the Medical Director and functions as a fully integrated treatment team member.
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and evaluate treatment results. Utilize psychotherapeutic methods, monitor medication effects, and discuss progress toward goals with patients. Formulate accurate diagnoses based on clinical assessments and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Engage in active on-call rotation for urgent psychiatric issues, including after-hours responses and in-person coverage. Collaborate closely with psychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses, and other professionals for holistic care. Support utilization management, insurance authorization, and external consultations for aftercare.
Provide consultation, clinical training to staff on medication management and psychiatric evaluations. Serve as a psychiatric expert across Vail Health system and community leader for outreach and education. Maintain comprehensive caseload and excellence in clinical documentation per regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with psychiatric specialization
- Prescriptive authority including DEA registration for psychiatric medications
- Experience conducting psychiatric evaluations in adolescent and adult populations
- Ability to diagnose psychological problems and develop evidence-based treatment plans
- Proficiency in psychotherapeutic methods and medication management
- Knowledge of laboratory test interpretation and physical examinations in behavioral health
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for clinical documentation in inpatient psychiatry
- Training in multidisciplinary team collaboration for acute psychiatric care
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family, collateral persons, conducting physical examinations, observing behaviors, reviewing history, and interpreting tests
- Develop and deliver comprehensive clinical programming, treatment planning, utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications
- Prescribe medication that can alter chemical imbalances affecting patient’s state of mind and behavior
- Engage in active on-call rotation, responding to urgent psychiatric issues including in-person coverage
- Support Utilization Management, insurance authorization through peer-to-peer engagement and documentation
- Collaborate closely with psychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses for integrated care
- Consult with external providers, schools, community agencies for aftercare coordination
- Provide consultation and clinical training to staff on medication management and psychiatric evaluations
