About this role

Staff Nurse RN assumes total responsibility for patient care in an Ambulatory Surgical Center, adhering to physician's orders and center policies. The role involves assisting in the provision of nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Day-to-day duties include assessing patient understanding and expectations, identifying desired patient outcomes, and continually adjusting the care plan based on patient and family data. The nurse documents information in the patient record and verbally reports pertinent details to ensure continuity of care.

In the operating room, the nurse demonstrates proper preoperative processes, surgical case counting, and aseptic technique. They efficiently manage turnover times and anticipate the surgeon's needs during procedures, while maintaining proper patient identification and surgical site marking per policy.

The position requires current comprehensive professional knowledge in conformance with nursing standards, AAAHC regulations, the Patient Bill of Rights, and the Nurse Practice Act. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to provide age-appropriate care to patients served in the center.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing; current PA State RN License or compact license.
  • CPR required.
  • ACLS required.
  • PALS required within 180 days of hire.
  • Minimum one year in the operating room as a circulating RN with strong medical surgical nursing and assessment skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in provision of nursing care to patients in an Ambulatory Surgical Center setting.
  • Assumes total responsibility for patient care in accordance with physician's orders and center policies.
  • Legibly documents information in patient record and signs record using appropriate professional title.
  • Assesses level of understanding and expectations of care.
  • Identifies desired patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates proper preoperative process – communication/report.
  • Demonstrates proper aseptic technique.
  • Anticipates surgeon's needs during surgical procedure.
