About this role
The Surgical Scrub Nurse assists the surgical team during operating procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse. This position provides direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person during surgery, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and respect.
Duties include arranging sterile set up, passing sponges, instruments and sutures, adjusting lights, cleaning the operating room, and maintaining accurate sponge, needle and instrument count. The Scrub Nurse also assists with moving and positioning the patient as directed by the surgical registered nurse.
This role works as part of the care team to meet customer needs and support departmental objectives. The work environment involves potential exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, and hazardous waste, requiring considerable standing, reaching, and walking.
The Scrub Nurse provides quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts, and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development. AtlantiCare offers tuition reimbursement and other resources to support team members' educational goals.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, speak, and write English.
- Successful completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program.
- New Jersey State license for LPN.
- BLSHCP certification required upon hire or transfer.
- Proficiency in clinical applications preferred; will be trained within 30-60 days.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, with good hand/eye coordination and visual/hearing acuity.
