Admission and Transfer Center - Staff Nurse

University of Iowa Health Care—recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States—is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. The ATC operates the high-volume patient admit and transfer center, facilitating patient access to inpatient services through telephone and electronic communication. It serves as a contact center for internal providers and external referring providers across over 20 departments.

The Transfer Center team focuses on triage of referring facility transfer requests and facilitates inpatient access through inter-facility avenues, including admissions from emergency departments and ambulatory areas. This ensures timely patient placement in a safe and accurate manner. Clinical assessments guide triage and bed placement decisions.

The Bed Management team assigns the right patient to the right bed at the right time. They work closely with inpatient nursing teams to facilitate patient throughput and prioritize appropriate patients into beds efficiently. This supports overall hospital operations.

This position is eligible for a combination of remote work and in-person hybrid work within Iowa. Training occurs onsite at the Hospital Support Services Building for a minimum of 6 months or as determined by the supervisor. Hybrid eligibility follows successful training completion and annual policy review.
