About this role

NaphCare is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join the team at Kilby Correctional Facility in Montgomery, AL. Work under psychiatrist supervision alongside correctional officers and medical professionals. Provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for residents with complex needs.

In this controlled environment where security is top priority, assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders. Manage medications by prescribing, adjusting, or discontinuing as needed. Maintain accurate patient records including assessments, plans, and progress notes.

Respond to psychiatric emergencies with immediate interventions and safety protocols. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams like psychologists, social workers, and correctional staff. Coordinate educational training activities related to mental health care.

Requirements

  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in AL
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in AL
  • Current DEA registration in state
  • Active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Must pass facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with psychiatric disorders
  • Provide medication management including prescribing, adjusting, and discontinuing medication as needed
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes
