About this role
Within the context of a primary health care with a population health approach, and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice, the Community Health Nurse provides a full continuum of public health, prevention and health promotion services. These services enhance the optimal health, well-being and safety of clients in rural remote settings. The role follows the established vision, values and Canadian Community of Health Nursing Standards.
Community Health Nurses identify and prioritize wellness needs while developing and maintaining community partnerships. They deliver health promotion, advocacy, counseling, education, assessment, referral and intervention in various community-based settings. This work supports clients across all ages with a focus on evidence-based practices.

Requirements
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
- Training in public health nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Valid BC Driver’s License with use of personal vehicle for local area travel
- Comprehensive knowledge of public health nursing theory within a primary health care and population health approach
- Comprehensive knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice
- Demonstrated ability to counsel clients and their families
- Working knowledge of immunization protocols
- Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system
Responsibilities
- Provide a full continuum of public health, prevention and health promotion services
- Identify and prioritize wellness needs of clients
- Develop and maintain community partnerships to provide health services
- Deliver health promotion, advocacy, counseling and education
- Conduct assessment, referral and intervention in community-based settings
- Apply evidence-based nursing practice related to childhood and adolescence
- Administer immunizations following established protocols
