The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute seeks a Staff Nurse (RN) to join its Apheresis department. This nurse plays a critical role in delivering innovative patient care that improves health across the state and world.

The staff nurse manages and provides patient-centered care, directing and supervising nursing care provided by other team members. Daily responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating nursing care during apheresis procedures such as stem cell collections and plasma exchange.

The role supports the OSUCCC-James mission of maximizing patient involvement in their own plan of care while reducing hospitalization. Staff engagement and a focus on quality, safety, and cost-effective care are central to the professional practice model.

Requirements

  • Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program.
  • Current Ohio license or interim permit to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required upon hire).
  • Experience in a relevant care setting (e.g., apheresis, dialysis, hematology/oncology, or critical care) preferred.
  • Ability to manage central lines and operate apheresis machines.
  • Knowledge of blood component therapy and aseptic technique.
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide patient-centered care to patients and their families.
  • Direct and supervise nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team.
  • Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care in alignment with the professional practice model.
  • Operate apheresis equipment to perform therapeutic plasma exchange, stem cell collections, and other apheresis procedures.
  • Monitor patients during apheresis procedures and respond to adverse reactions.
  • Educate patients and families about apheresis procedures and care plans.
  • Contribute to staff engagement, patient experience, quality, and safety initiatives.
  • Support the reduction of hospitalization length by maximizing patient involvement in their own plan of care.
