About this role

The RN Wound Care Nurse provides routine wound care evaluation, management, and treatments in accordance with accepted protocols and clinical standards. This role primarily serves patients on an outpatient basis, from infants to geriatric patients, at the new Riverside Smithfield Hospital opening in early 2026.

Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing patients for wound care procedures, maintaining complete and accurate patient records, and performing wound healing treatments as ordered. The nurse also reinforces patient education on wound healing procedures and may perform hyperbaric treatments if trained.

This position works under the direct supervision of the Program Manager or Clinical Coordinator, requiring sound independent judgment in an emotionally charged environment with potential life-and-death ramifications. The role demands high levels of concentration and professional interaction with patients, family members, and clinical personnel.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Registered Nursing program (Required)
  • Previous RN experience (Required)
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required)
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in an emotionally charged environment with life-and-death situations
  • Basic computer skills for patient charting and departmental documentation

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for wound care procedures using safety and clinical protocols
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records and charts for treatment documentation
  • Perform wound healing procedures as ordered
  • Reinforce patient education related to wound healing procedures
  • Serve as Intellicure resource and trainer for new hires
  • Order wound care supplies for the PAR room
  • Perform hyperbaric treatments if trained and as ordered by physician
  • Participate in quality improvement and safety programs
