About this role
The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse (Circulating/Scrub) position is to be accountable for achieving patient goals through creating and maintaining a safe environment for the patient undergoing procedures while anesthetized or sedated. The role of the circulating RN is patient centered and essential for timely delivery of quality care and optimal patient outcomes.
The OR nurse provides high quality nursing care through patient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation. Using sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills, the RN ensures positive patient outcomes in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
The Peri-operative Circulator/Scrub RN is knowledgeable in AORN Standards of Practice, ANA Standards of Practice, JCAHO Standards, National Patient Safety Goals, and State Department of Health Standards. This role is a member of the surgical team and performs in accordance with expectations set by the team and Perioperative leadership.
As a professional staff and member of an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Professional Nurse exemplifies the behavioral expectations articulated for this role. Competent practice is evidenced by patient/family goal achievement, satisfaction, and care thoroughly documented per American Nurses Association Standards.
Requirements
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or eligible for New Jersey license
- Graduate of a School of Nursing
- Adult Medical/Surgical experience preferred
- One to two (1-2) years’ experience in OR Nursing preferred
- BLS required; must maintain valid certification by the American Heart Association in basic life support (BLS)
- Ability to employ problem solving techniques and critical thinking
- Ability to lift and move patients with/without reasonable accommodations
- Proficiency in the English language is required
