This role provides professional nursing care through appropriate medical triage and education via the telephone, addressing customers' health concerns while working independently with minimal supervision. The Access Center Nurse is committed to living the Genesis Mission of serving the community by helping each person achieve optimal health and well-being.

Day-to-day duties involve using symptoms-based protocols to assess and classify the urgency of symptoms, then advising patients on referral options or interventions. The nurse also conducts outbound calls to follow up on patient compliance with the recommended plan to achieve optimal outcomes, and documents all telephone inquiries at the time of the call.

Requirements

  • Current Ohio RN License and an ADN diploma or BSN.
  • Minimum of four years RN nursing experience.
  • Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with a pleasant telephone voice.
  • Ability to use the nursing process for problem-solving of customers' health questions and concerns.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex and changing environment.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of software including Word and Excel, with demonstrated typing proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Uses symptoms-based protocols to assess significant data and classify the urgency of symptoms, advising patients on options for referral or intervention.
  • Provides patient teaching or facilitates its occurrence through referral or health information resources discussed during the call.
  • Conducts outbound calls to follow up on patient compliance with the recommended plan to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Schedules after-hours procedures for departments and notifies appropriate staff when emergencies occur.
  • Documents all telephone inquiries in the telephonic nursing computer system at the time of the call.
  • Performs other functions as assigned to support the Patient Access Center.
