About this role
Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The Psychiatric Emergency Nurse works within the Emergency team and the Mental Health Observation Unit. Provides mental health expertise in patient assessment, care planning, intervention and evaluation within the Emergency Department and facility.
Delivers support and mental healthcare to emergency patients and families experiencing stress or crisis. Offers consultation and support to patients primarily assigned to an Emergency nurse. Focuses on child and adolescent mental health in the Psych Emerg Nurses - Children's department.
Practices as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team in a clinical job stream. Collaborates in the Mental Health Observation Unit and Emergency Department settings. Union position with MNU supporting in-person work arrangement.
Demonstrates competence in psychiatric assessment within a biopsychosocial framework and crisis intervention. Applies therapeutic communication and knowledge of community resources for psychosocial needs. Builds excellence in mental health clinical skills through daily patient interactions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years recent acute mental health experience required
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health experience
- Previous experience in an Emergency Department preferred
- Demonstrated competence in psychiatric assessment within a biopsychosocial framework
- Demonstrated competence in crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, co-occurring disorders
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing required
- Registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) required
- Demonstrated excellence in mental health clinical skills
