About this role

Under general supervision, plan and provide direct professional nursing care for patients with behavioral health concerns throughout the entire episode of service delivery. This role serves as the primary nurse for patients presenting with behavioral health needs in the Emergency Department.

Demonstrate clinical expertise using the nursing process to ensure safe, appropriate patient care. Foster effective team dynamics and collaborate with colleagues to support patient, family, and staff safety. Complete all documentation in a timely manner according to hospital policies.

Partner with patients and families to evaluate outcomes and provide education on all aspects of care. Support the organization's mission and values through consistent behaviors. Participate in professional development through preceptor and mentor activities to nurture team growth.

Develop a working understanding of medico-legal implications of evidence handling and preservation. Pursue specialty licensure or certification as required by the department. BSN is preferred upon hire and required within three years.

Requirements

  • Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure required upon hire and maintained thereafter.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant required upon hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire or before completion of orientation if longer than 6 months.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required upon hire.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred upon hire and required within 3 years.
  • Minimum of two years’ clinical experience in pediatrics and/or behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Specialty licensure/certification may be required as specified by department.
