About this role

The Observation Unit (H-Blue) is a specialized, fast-paced service designed for efficient, ongoing medical treatment, assessment, and reassessment of patients. You will care for a wide variety of patients with chest pain, A-fib, cellulitis, syncope, asthma, congestive heart failure, trauma, musculoskeletal pain, stroke, and TIA.

Patients have a short length of stay and the unit admits and discharges patients 24/7. As a Staff Nurse, you are accountable for the care activities, safety, and goal achievements of assigned patients through assessing, planning, and intervening in actual or potential health problems.

You will be a member of a designated care team, collaborating and coordinating with team members to plan patient care in a safe environment. The unit emphasizes achieving the highest quality and safety in delivery of patient care, following standards from ANA, Joint Commission, and Patient/Family Centered Principles.

This role provides a dynamic environment for professional growth as you manage a high volume of diverse patient cases. The fast-paced nature of the unit allows you to refine skills in rapid assessment, patient education, and discharge planning.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Current BLS certification (must maintain valid certification).
  • Phlebotomy Certification or IV Certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in the English language required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, and intervene in actual or potential health problems for assigned patients.
  • Evaluate patient responses to care and adjust interventions accordingly.
  • Provide patient education and discharge planning to ensure safe transitions.
  • Collaborate with the designated care team to coordinate patient care.
  • Guide team members in planning patient care in a safe environment.
  • Adhere to American Nurses Association Standards, Joint Commission standards, and University Hospital policies.
  • Manage a caseload of patients with short length of stay, handling admissions and discharges 24/7.
  • Care for patients with diverse diagnoses including chest pain, A-fib, cellulitis, syncope, asthma, CHF, trauma, and stroke.
