About this role

This part-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner role at Grafton is a six-month assignment with potential to extend. You will provide general medical care and treatment to children and adolescents with complex needs, including developmental disabilities and psychiatric conditions.

You will assess physical and emotional needs, prescribe medications, and coordinate referrals to specialists. Approximately 80% of your work hours are direct billable services such as physical exams and same-day sick visits.

You will collaborate within a culture of teamwork, working with academic and residential administrators to support a therapeutic milieu. You practice under a supervising physician and report to the Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in Virginia
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with complex needs
  • Ability to prescribe and manage psychotropic medications
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities and psychiatric conditions
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and supervising physicians

Responsibilities

  • Conduct admission file reviews for the organization
  • Provide admission and annual physicals
  • Provide same-day visits for sick clients
  • Identify need for, initiate, and coordinate referrals for specialty consultations
  • Perform medication evaluation and review, prescribe appropriate medications, and adjust regimes based on client needs
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies, x-rays, and other examinations to assess clinical problems
  • Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings to consult on treatment and provide leadership on treatment issues
  • Document client files, record physical findings, and formulate plans of care
