About this role

As a member of the Trauma Team, participates in clinical, educational, leadership, consultant and research activities related to complex and critically injured patients. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and standards of practice. Supports the integration and application of evidence-based practice and critical thinking skills to provide optimal healthcare outcomes.

Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process based on evidence-based practice, current research and national standards. Performs highly complex assessment, care planning, treatment and discharge/transition planning and placement to specified patients. Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to implement outcome-focused patient care needs.

Develops evidence-based clinical interventions and processes to achieve defined patient and system outcomes. Coordinates care of patients with use of system and community resources to assure successful health/illness/wellness transitions. Enhances delivery of care and achieves optimal patient outcomes through coordinated efforts.

Evaluates quality improvement data and formulates evidence-based recommendations. Critically analyzes research findings and recommends practice changes to improve patient outcomes. Mentors nurses to acquire new skills, clinical judgment and effectively incorporate evidence into practice.

Requirements

  • Graduate of School of Professional with Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Master’s degree in healthcare related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum of five years recent trauma critical care nursing experience with responsibilities reflecting direct patient care, teaching and research
  • Experience in championing healthcare performance improvement and research projects required
  • Experience in public speaking and teaching required
  • Current Commonwealth of Virginia nursing licensure
  • Current specialty certification such as CEN, CCRN, TCRN or ACTN
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; self-directed; team player; current in BLS
