About this role

The Trauma Nurse Coordinator assumes 24-hour responsibility for the coordination of trauma care of patients of all ages throughout the hospital. This position requires knowledge and skill of professional nursing theory and practice, trauma care and trauma systems, principles of teaching and learning, research and quality assurance. Effective interpersonal relationships are essential to all activities.

Functions as an expert practitioner providing for the clinical needs of trauma, ER and ambulance patients, both directly and indirectly. Acts as a consultant providing expertise in trauma, ER and ambulance care to staff, pre-hospital providers, and other health care professionals. Responsible for the development of standards of care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.

Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of trauma, ER and ambulance protocols. Collaborates with other departments for continuity of care to trauma, ER and ambulance patients and families from admission through discharge or transfer. Collaborates with ED leadership for quality assurance programs related to trauma, emergency room and ambulance care.

Responsible for maintenance of the trauma registry, data collection, monitoring compliance, and data analysis. Develops plans for trauma, ambulance and emergency room related in-services and continuing educational activities. Assists the Medical Director in investigation and resolution of problems in trauma, ambulance and emergency room care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program
  • Minimum of one year of experience in emergency nursing
  • Preferably one year experience as a trauma nurse coordinator
  • Preferred verification in Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • Knowledge and skill of professional nursing theory and practice, trauma care and trauma systems
  • Knowledge of principles of teaching and learning, research and quality assurance
  • Demonstrates excellence in practice through full role functions: practitioner, educator, consultant, and researcher
