About this role

CoreCivic is currently seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services to incarcerated individuals within a correctional facility, working alongside a collaborating physician.

Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health disorders using established criteria, and developing individualized treatment plans. The practitioner prescribes and monitors psychiatric medications, provides brief psychotherapy, and responds to psychiatric emergencies within the facility.

This role collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team including primary care physicians, psychologists, social workers, and correctional staff to ensure integrated, holistic care. The practitioner also provides expertise and guidance to staff on mental health issues, crisis management, and suicide prevention.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments and diagnose mental health disorders
  • Experience prescribing and monitoring psychiatric medications in a clinical setting
  • Competence in providing brief psychotherapy and evidence-based counseling
  • Skill in crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric response
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team and correctional staff
  • Knowledge of suicide risk assessment and management protocols
  • Licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of practice

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments of incarcerated individuals to determine the presence and severity of mental health disorders
  • Diagnose and classify mental illnesses according to established diagnostic criteria (e.g., DSM-5)
  • Assess and evaluate suicide risk, self-harm, and dangerous behaviors among incarcerated individuals
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for incarcerated individuals with psychiatric disorders
  • Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications and monitor their effectiveness and side effects
  • Provide brief psychotherapy and counseling services using evidence-based therapeutic modalities
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies within the correctional facility promptly and efficiently
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and ensure a holistic approach to treatment
