About this role
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking nurses to deliver health care for summer academic programs serving nearly 1,000 students in grades 6-12. These STEM-focused programs range from one to four weeks in length and include both day and residential options.
Nurses work autonomously, staffing the Summer Nurse Office and providing care as needed. Responsibilities include nursing care, medication administration, health teaching, triage, and data collection and verification of health forms.
This temporary position lasts approximately 6-8 weeks and requires afternoon, evening, and overnight shifts, with some weekend availability. Overnight on-call shifts include a private area for sleeping.
Nurses should demonstrate commitment to professional standards and continued professional development, and must be knowledgeable of our policies and procedures. A successful nurse will also exhibit a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and an interest in working with neurodivergent participants from diverse backgrounds.
Requirements
- Excellent nursing and interpersonal skills
- Good judgement and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Commitment to professional standards and continued professional development
- Knowledgeable of policies and procedures and ability to follow them when providing patient care
- Positive attitude and sense of humor
- Interest in working with neurodivergent participants from diverse backgrounds
- Valid LPN or RN license
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care to summer program participants in grades 6-12
- Administer medications and provide health teaching
- Perform triage and assess health needs of students
- Collect and verify health forms and medical documentation
- Staff the Summer Nurse Office autonomously and provide care as needed
- Assume responsibility and accountability for quality of own nursing practice
- Work afternoon, evening, and overnight shifts, including some weekends
Benefits
- RN pay rate $40/hr
- LPN pay rate $30/hr
- Flexible weekly hours typically between 16-40
- Private area for sleeping during overnight on-call shifts
