About this role
We are seeking an experienced Maternal and Child Health nurse dedicated to supporting vulnerable families. The successful candidate will manage a caseload and receive continuous professional support throughout their tenure.
You will provide flexible and intensive support for vulnerable families to improve the health and wellbeing of children across the Geelong community. The role focuses on improving outcomes for families experiencing significant early parenting difficulties and children identified as being at risk of harm.
Deliver a structured, comprehensive and targeted approach to the early intervention and prevention of physical, emotional and social challenges affecting young children and their families. The Enhanced Maternal and Child Health service is delivered within established program standards and framework.
Work as part of a collaborative team that develops partnerships with relevant services. Maintain professional knowledge and skills while meeting all service agreement and legislative requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-4 years experience as a Maternal & Child Health Nurse
- Knowledge of normal early childhood health and development with ability to assess family needs
- Understanding of the effects of differing parenting and lifestyles on infant and child wellbeing
- Demonstrated knowledge of childhood immunisation
- Knowledge and experience in supporting breastfeeding women
- Ability to engage families and influence change in parenting behaviours
- Commitment to infant-focused, family-centred practice and ongoing professional development
Responsibilities
- Provide an Enhanced Maternal & Child Health service within program standards and framework
- Manage a caseload of vulnerable families requiring intensive support
- Deliver flexible and intensive support to improve outcomes for families experiencing early parenting difficulties
- Implement evidence-based intervention strategies for children aged 0-3 years
- Develop and maintain partnerships with relevant services using a collaborative approach
- Commit to quality service delivery and continuous improvement
- Meet all requirements in respect to service agreements and relevant legislation
