About this role

The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. This role incorporates the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care through the application of the nursing process.

Day-to-day duties include delivering patient care by assessing and evaluating needs, applying critical thinking skills, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The nurse prioritizes aspects of patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care while delegating to others as appropriate.

The nurse role models Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care through actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, and Purposeful Hourly Rounding addressing the 4 Ps. This environment emphasizes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, using evidence-based practices to understand perceptions of care and initiating service recovery when needed.

Opportunities for growth include engaging in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes, collaborating on quality improvement projects, and contributing to evidence-based practice activities and nursing research studies. The nurse also utilizes institutional information technology to document practice and support performance improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
  • Ability to apply the nursing process and critical thinking skills in patient care management.
  • Strong clinical assessment and evaluation skills for patient care needs.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and applying the nursing process based on theory, research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills in patient care management.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Role model Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care through actions including Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap Up.
  • Practice safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement principles of high reliability to identify and avoid high risk behaviors, providing a safe environment for patients.
  • Utilize institutional information technology by documenting nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.
