Children's Mercy Fetal Health operates the Special Care Delivery service, where more than 1,850 babies have been born since the program started in 2011. This role is at the heart of delivering comprehensive perinatal care for high-risk pregnancies.

The nurse utilizes the nursing process and scientific principles to provide age-appropriate care for perinatal patients. Responsibilities include assisting with shift supervision of nonprofessional personnel as necessary to ensure safe, compassionate care.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required and 1-2 years nursing experience
  • At least 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Licensed RN in Missouri or Kansas (or multistate license) required upon hire
  • RN Compact license required for states other than KS and MO
  • Must obtain Licensed RN - Kansas or equivalent within 90 days
  • Willingness to receive influenza vaccine and provide immunization records for MMR, varicella, and Tdap if non-immune

Responsibilities

  • Utilize nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide comprehensive, age-appropriate nursing care for perinatal patients
  • Assist with shift supervision of nonprofessional personnel as necessary
  • Deliver babies in the Special Care Delivery service as part of the Fetal Health Center team
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status during labor, including high-risk pregnancies
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team to implement care plans
  • Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, and postpartum care
  • Ensure adherence to infection control and safety protocols during deliveries
