About this role
The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to assist the Nursing team in providing patient care under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. This role is at Stead Family Children's Hospital, part of Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and regional referral center.
Duties include applying nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses. The nurse develops care plans based on patient condition and age, coordinates care across settings, and implements interventions to achieve expected outcomes. Documentation and reporting of patient responses are key responsibilities.
The nurse collaborates with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to integrate contributions into the care plan. The environment emphasizes safety through universal precautions and unit protocols, with a focus on maintaining a safe environment for all.
This 60% effort role features a rotating day/night schedule with rotating weekends and holidays. Qualified candidates may receive a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000, and the salary starts at $60,000 at 100% effort, based on experience.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team
Responsibilities
- Apply nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
- Assess patient health care preferences and expectations
- Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions
- Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities and nursing diagnoses
- Document and report interventions and patient/family response
- Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plans
- Implement nursing interventions according to department policies and universal precautions to maintain a safe environment
