About this role
Saint Peter's Children's Hospital is seeking a dedicated NICU Nurse Practitioner to join its renowned neonatology team. The hospital features a 54-bed neonatal ICU and a full range of medical and surgical pediatric subspecialty care, with a newly designed pediatric emergency room seeing over 25,000 visits annually.
In this role, you will provide direct patient care within the limits prescribed by training and in consultation with a supervising physician. You will maintain a panel of continuity care patients, assist with patient flow, and perform procedures such as urinary catheterization and venipuncture when triage nurses are unavailable.
You will work closely with physicians and the PA team to care for patients needing consults and ongoing monitoring. Responsibilities include reviewing routine laboratory reports for abnormalities, contacting families for further evaluation when appropriate, and documenting all aspects of patient care within 24 hours.
This position offers the opportunity to assist with planning, developing, and implementing patient education activities appropriate to the ages of patients from neonates through geriatrics. You will also attend mandatory in-service updates and continuing education programs to maintain certification and licensure.
Requirements
- Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- Current Advanced Practice Nursing licensure in the State of New Jersey.
- Current CDS and DEA required.
- Master's degree in nursing required.
- Two years' experience in specialty strongly preferred.
- Certified as a nurse practitioner in the State of New Jersey within area of specialty.
- BLS, PALS, and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider) certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care within the limits prescribed by training and in consultation with a supervising physician.
- Maintain a panel of continuity care patients and assist with patient flow as requested by the attending physician.
- Perform urinary catheterization, venipuncture, and other nursing tasks as requested by the attending physician.
- Assist physicians and work with the PA team to care for patients needing consults and ongoing monitoring.
- Review routine laboratory reports for abnormalities and notify the responsible clinician according to degree of urgency.
- Document all aspects of patient care promptly, completing documentation within 24 hours of patient care.
- Assist with planning, developing, and implementing patient education activities appropriate to the ages of patients.
- Call in routine medication and vitamin refills, consulting with the physician as necessary, and complete school and daycare forms.
