About this role

The ICN is a 30-bed Intensive Care Nursery caring for acutely ill and premature infants from all over New Hampshire and parts of Vermont. Care is patient and family centered, with families encouraged to be present and participate in their baby’s care from the beginning. They are considered part of the care team.

Nurses provide care to critically ill as well as convalescing infants, with nurse to patient ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:3. Primary nursing is encouraged and contributes to family satisfaction. This is a part-time position with 2x12hr shifts per week, rotating across weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

A two-person high risk neonatal transport team includes an ICN RN trained to provide this level of care along with a respiratory care practitioner. The Clinical Nurse engages in autonomous practice directed by tenets of practitioner, leader/decision maker, scientist, and transferor. They utilize the nursing process for evidence-based care and continuous monitoring.

Opportunities for professional growth include participation in the unit-based practice council and quality improvement projects. Nurses actively seek feedback, mentor colleagues, and precept students and team members. The role emphasizes governance of practice and positive outcomes through knowledge exchange.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required upon hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certificate required within 6 months of hire date

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care
  • Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process to anticipate and recognize changes in patient status, taking action to modify the plan of care
  • Practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients, uphold their autonomy, ensure informed consent
  • Manages interpersonal relationships, mentors colleagues for advancement of nursing practice
  • Assumes authority and accountability for nursing care of patients while delegating elements of care
  • Actively seeks out current evidence and standards and applies to daily practice
  • Role models a culture of inquiry by contributing to research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice
  • Communicates effectively, partners to effect change, precepts student nurses, externs, residents, and team members
