The Special Care Nursery, Transition Care Nursery, and Intensive Care Nursery provide care for more than 1000 infants each year from the southeast and worldwide. Nursing expertise focuses on acute and chronic care of critically ill newborns with diagnoses like extremely low birth weight infants and congenital anomalies. Ideal candidates embrace developmental and family centered care.

As a Clinical Nurse I, plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan based on assessment of baseline needs and response to care. Function as part of a large multidisciplinary team in a shared governance environment.

Complete orientation working in Transitional Care and Special Care Nurseries with opportunity to engage the entire Intensive Care Nursery team. Participate in multi-disciplinary committee work and develop specialized skills. Full-time role features 3 - 12 hour rotating shifts with minimum 2-4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.

Requirements

  • Experienced RN
  • Ability to function as part of a large multidisciplinary team in a shared governance environment
  • Passion for developmental and family centered care
  • Nursing expertise in acute and chronic care of critically ill newborns
  • Knowledge of care for infants with congenital anomalies, neural tube defects, genetic disorders, and palliative care
  • Scope of practice as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Care for critically ill newborns including extremely low birth weight infants, persistent pulmonary hypertension, congenital anomalies such as diaphragmatic hernia and gastroschisis
  • Participate in developmental and family centered care within a multidisciplinary team
  • Work across Intensive Care Nursery, Transition Care Nursery, and Special Care Nursery
