Under the direction of the Clinical Manager(s), and in collaboration with Clinical Educators and Clinical Resource Nurses, the Clinical Mentor acts as a guide, role model, and advisor. Facilitates debriefings and shares practical, day-to-day applied knowledge with other nurses. Primarily responsible for providing rapid, just-in-time clinical mentorship on the unit.

Works in conjunction with nurse educators to provide ongoing guidance ensuring competence in the area of practice. Supports nurses through a mentoring process that promotes delivery of high-quality nursing care. Orientates, supports and promotes education to develop staff competence and fulfill responsibilities.

Integrates knowledge, skills and experience to meet clinical needs and social adjustment needs of team members. Ensures smooth transition into new areas or levels of practice and the work environment. Serves as positive role model of excellence in professional practice.

Demonstrates positive attitude and commitment to vision, values, and goals of the unit. Promotes interprofessional, patient-centered approach to care based on best available research evidence. Fosters growth of new or developing staff within effective mentoring relationship while supporting self-learning.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a nurse with Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU)
  • Clinical expertise in Intensive Care Nursery Unit (NICU)
  • Experience providing mentorship and guidance to nursing staff
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in neonatal intensive care
  • Skills in facilitating debriefings and clinical education
  • Ability to integrate clinical knowledge with team support needs
  • Demonstrated excellence in professional nursing practice

Responsibilities
