About this role

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients’ activities of daily living and plan of care. Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient’s family or significant other(s). Looking for individuals willing and experienced in stocking, clerical/administrative, cleaning of NICU specific equipment.

Supports activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport. Performs technical duties as directed by RN, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care specific to population served. Documents appropriately and demonstrates standard precautions including care of patients in isolation.

Cooper University’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a 35-bed level 3 nursery set up in smaller pods holding up to 4 infants, except Transitional nursery up to 12. Cares for infants as young as 23 weeks gestation requiring surgical interventions, respiratory support up to high frequency ventilation and nitric oxide. Features Neonatal transport team and robust ancillary team including Respiratory Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists, Unit secretaries and Child Life Personnel.

Requirements

  • High School/GED required
  • Successful completion of an unlicensed health care provider/technician program
  • Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited Nursing Program
  • 1 year or more patient care experience in a similar role
  • 0-2 years' experience preferred
  • Experience in stocking, clerical/administrative, cleaning of NICU specific equipment

Responsibilities

  • Supports the activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport
  • Performs technical duties as directed by RN, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, Foley catheter care specific to population served and documents appropriately
  • Identifies and communicates changes in patient’s status to RN and responds appropriately
  • Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues
  • Assists in admission, transfers and discharges of patients to and from the unit
  • Stocks, performs clerical/administrative duties, and cleans NICU specific equipment
  • Participates in Cooper patient satisfaction initiatives and goals
  • Completes annual unit-specific competencies by specified due date
