About this role
At Houston Methodist, the Transplant Recovery Nurse leads organ procurement services required for transplantation and manages the peri-operative phase of recipient transplantation. This position serves as a mentor and resource for team members. Reviews cadaveric donor organ offers, assesses clinical diagnostics, and evaluates case details with transplant physicians.
Determines organ suitability and disseminates pertinent transplant case information. Provides clinical guidance to other departments and coordinates full organ recovery and transplant events. Assists physicians in caring for patient needs using specialized clinical knowledge and skills.
Supports patient and family during the wait for transplant. Leads the organ recovery process according to transplant center protocol. Meets supply, equipment, and transportation needs to ensure optimal recovery environment.
In collaboration with physicians, implements appropriate organ and tissue-specific preservation. Coordinates and communicates with Organ Procurement Organization, Houston Methodist recovery and transplant teams, and recipient candidate family. Ensures proper management of organ recovery and transplant events.
Coaches staff on efficient communication to establish team environment including patient and family. Functions as mentor providing oversight for new employees. Fosters positive teaching environment aligned with business objectives.
Requirements
- Specialized clinical knowledge and skills in transplantation
- Ability to assess donor clinical diagnostics and evaluate organ suitability
- Experience reviewing cadaveric donor organ offers
- Proficiency in coordinating organ procurement organization activities
- Skills in peri-operative management for transplant recipients
- Knowledge of transplant center protocols for organ recovery
- Competence in organ and tissue preservation techniques
- Ability to provide clinical guidance during recovery events
