University of Iowa Health Care is one of the best hospitals in the United States and Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center. The Burn Treatment Center and Intermediate Care Unit (8 JCP) is a 17-bed unit caring for adult and pediatric burn patients plus adult trauma requiring intermediate monitoring. Staff provide inpatient and outpatient care including Burn Clinic services.
The unit features a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy room for burn/wound dressing care, a pediatric playroom, and rehabilitation gym. Staff also deliver burn outreach, education, and host an annual Burn Camp for survivors. The American College of Surgeons has designated it a Level I Burn Center since 1996.
Staff Nurses apply nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of responses to health and illness. They develop and implement care plans based on patient condition, age, psychological, educational, and socioeconomic factors. Collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams coordinates the continuum of care.
This 90% position involves day and night rotating shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation. All qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on incentive of up to $10,000. Join a team changing medicine and changing lives in Iowa City.
Requirements
- RN licensure in state of Iowa
- Experience or training in burn and wound care
- Knowledge of adult and pediatric burn patient management
- Familiarity with trauma intermediate care
- Ability to care for patients in hydrotherapy and rehabilitation settings
- Understanding of outpatient burn clinic operations
Responsibilities
- Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
- Assess patient health care preferences and expectations
- Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings
- Develop patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions
- Implement patient care plan according to patient priorities and document interventions and responses
- Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
- Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
- Implement nursing interventions according to policies, procedures, and protocols while following universal precautions
