About this role

The Staff Nurse I in the Neuroscience Center (Neurology) at UI Health provides direct patient care and takes the initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. This role is dedicated to serving movement and epilepsy patients within a top-tier academic medical center.

Day-to-day responsibilities include developing, implementing, and updating the patient's plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient's family. The nurse verifies and implements orders from physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.

The Staff Nurse I works collaboratively with other members of the health care team, sharing information to promote effective patient care. This position also engages with patients and families to develop an appropriate educational plan and responds to changing patient needs while advocating for the patient.

Requirements

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Illinois.
  • Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date (for RNs only).
  • Ability to develop and implement a patient plan of care based on ongoing assessment and family input.
  • Proficiency in verifying and implementing orders from physicians, PAs, and APNs with accurate electronic medical record documentation.
  • Skill in recognizing symptoms, establishing priorities, and responding effectively to patient needs.
  • Experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary health care team to promote effective patient care.
  • Commitment to integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, and Relationship Based Care into clinical practice.
  • Ability to engage patients and families in developing an appropriate educational plan.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities to support unit goals.
  • Integrates Relationship Based Care and Evidence Based Practice into clinical nursing excellence.
