The Division of Family and Child Health of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is hiring a part-time Junior Public Health Nurse to support programs and services that promote health equity and social justice for NYC families and children. The division is committed to ensuring every child, woman, and family reaches their full health potential.

Under the supervision of a Public Health Nurse level III, the JPHN will perform as a member of a health team in New York City schools, both public and nonpublic. Duties include case finding, making referrals, conducting follow-up, and providing health education to students, staff, and families.

The JPHN will collaborate with audiovisual screening teams, doctors, and other healthcare providers in schools and the community. They will also supervise Public Health Advisors and establish working relationships with school administrators and community partners.

Requirements

Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice and health equity.
Ability to work effectively as part of a health team in school settings.
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Experience or training in case finding, referrals, and follow-up.
Ability to supervise and guide Public Health Advisors.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Responsibilities

Performing as a member of a health team in New York City public and nonpublic schools.
Prepping case findings, making referrals, and conducting follow-up in conjunction with audiovisual screening teams, doctors, and other healthcare providers.
Assisting in providing health education to students and staff in schools, and advising families on proper health practices.
Maintaining school records and preparing monthly reports for nursing supervisors.
Supervising Public Health Advisors.
Establishing contacts and collaborating working relationships with school administrators and the community.
