About this role
Regarded as clinical expert and role model in application of the nursing process and evidence-based practice to manage complex care needs of specific patient populations. Serves as a resource person to physicians, nurses, patients, and family members. Applies principles of adult learning to plan and conduct educational sessions promoting staff development and positive outcomes.
Demonstrates proficiency in teaching and precepting skills while facilitating development of unit preceptors, including effective delegation and interpersonal skills. Coordinates unit-based clinical orientation program for new staff, students, and preceptors, individualizing orientations. Assists with annual educational needs assessments and development of competency checklists.
Identifies need for revision and evaluates effectiveness of operational forms, providing resources for optimal patient outcomes. Role models time management skills, ensures compliance with policies, and contributes to cost containment. Assumes staff-level leadership and resource role with the interdisciplinary team.
Integrates patient/family education into staff development programs under direction of CNS and Unit Director. Collaborates to develop standardized teaching materials incorporating cultural beliefs and values. Models effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

Requirements
- Clinical expert and role model in nursing process and evidence-based practice for complex cardiovascular ICU patient populations
- Proficiency in teaching, precepting, and adult learning principles
- Expert communication skills demonstrated to colleagues through example
- Foresight regarding impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on intuition and experience
- Recognized as expert clinician and leader within cardiovascular ICU specialty
- Ability to role model time management, compliance, and interdisciplinary teamwork
Responsibilities
