About this role

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute’s mission is to improve health through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care.

In this role, you will manage and provide care to patients and their families, directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating nursing care in alignment with the professional practice model.

You will work in a dedicated acute leukemia unit within a comprehensive cancer center, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes. The environment emphasizes maximizing patient involvement in their plan of care and reducing length of hospitalization.

Requirements

  • Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program required
  • Current Ohio license or interim permit required
  • Experience in relevant care setting (e.g., oncology, hematology, or acute care) preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience desired
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • CPR certification (BLS) required
  • Chemotherapy biotherapy certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide care to patients and their families in the acute leukemia unit
  • Direct and supervise nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team
  • Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, delegate, and evaluate nursing care of patients
  • Support the achievement of positive patient care outcomes and maximize patient involvement in their own plan of care
  • Contribute to staff engagement, patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care
  • Provide supportive services directed towards reducing the length of hospitalization
  • Administer chemotherapy and monitor for treatment-related side effects
  • Educate patients and families on disease process, treatment plans, and self-care management
