About this role
Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse plans, directs, assesses, and provides nursing care according to hospital and department policies. Important dimensions consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, and broad nursing knowledge. The registered nurse is an experienced nurse who orients new staff and precepts students.
The RN possesses skills to competently evaluate, plan, and implement appropriate nursing care of patients, provide prescribed medication and treatment, and assist physicians during treatment. Staff monitor and record patient condition, notifying physician when appropriate. In the IICN, provide well-baby, nursery, IICN level 1 and 2 care.
Attend deliveries, initiate resuscitation as needed, and maintain skills to stabilize for transfer to tertiary levels of care. Float to the Family Birth Center to provide postpartum maternal and infant care. Work in a BABY FRIENDLY™ hospital designated by WHO and UNICEF, adhering to the 10 Steps initiative.
Assume relief charge nurse duty as oriented and assigned. Pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment. Complete and pass all annual competencies for ongoing professional growth.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience in a level II or higher level nursery or successful completion of a NICU training program
- Knowledge of well newborn care, newborn delivery admission, resuscitation, and maternal postpartum care
- State of California RN license
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
- NRP Advanced Provider
- STABLE required for hires after April 1, 2025; current staff by September 1, 2026
- Pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent patient assignment
- Complete and pass all annual competencies
Responsibilities
