About this role

The Clinical Nurse is an engaged and credentialed member of the Professional Nursing Organization, responsible for autonomous practice directed by tenets of practitioner, leader/decision maker, scientist, and transferor. They utilize the nursing process to provide evidence-based care for neonates in the NICU. Continuously monitor and evaluate practice to ensure safe passage of patients in the best interest of populations served.

Assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care for critically ill newborns. Use critical thinking to anticipate changes in patient status, modifying plans or elevating to the care team as needed. Practice per ANA Code of Ethics, advocating for patients and families in decision-making.

Manage interpersonal relationships and mentor colleagues to advance nursing practice. Assume authority and accountability for patient care, delegating to team members per laws and policies. Prioritize time to optimize outcomes in the fast-paced NICU environment.

Seek current evidence and standards, applying them to daily neonatal care. Role model inquiry by contributing to research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice. Communicate effectively and precept students, residents, and team members.

Actively seek feedback to improve performance and engage in governance of practice. Partner with others to effect change through knowledge exchange. Perform other duties as required in the Intensive Care Nursery.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Licensed Registered Nurse with New Hampshire eligibility
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required upon hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Certificate required within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to provide specialized care to premature and critically ill newborns
  • Proficiency in monitoring neonatal vital signs and ventilator management

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care for NICU patients
  • Uses critical thinking and the nursing process to anticipate and recognize changes in neonatal patient status, taking action to modify the plan of care
  • Practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients, uphold autonomy, ensure informed consent and support self-determination
  • Manages interpersonal relationships for self and others while mentoring colleagues for nursing practice advancement
  • Assumes authority and accountability for nursing care of NICU patients, delegating elements to care team members per regulations
  • Actively seeks and applies current evidence and standards to daily practice in neonatal intensive care
  • Role models inquiry by contributing to research, quality improvement and evidence-based practice at the local level
  • Communicates effectively and precepts student nurses, residents and healthcare team members
