About this role

As a Patient Care Assistant in the Special Care Nursery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, you will work as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team under the direction of a registered nurse. You assist in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment.

Your day-to-day duties include performing and documenting vital signs, EKGs, bathing, and other sanitary needs of patients. You will transfer and assist with ambulation, feed patients, and help RNs and physicians with exams and treatments as required.

Requirements

  • Healthcare experience: 1-2 years required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred
  • Nursing Assistant (LNA) - New Hampshire Board of Nursing preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Demonstrated typing skills and computer experience required
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to lift and transport patients using safe patient handling techniques

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including vital signs, EKGs, bathing, and other sanitary needs
  • Transfer and assist with ambulation of patients, and feed patients as needed
  • Assist RNs and physicians with exams and treatments as required
  • Ensure patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately as needs indicate
  • Perform specimen collection and document all appropriate information
  • Communicate with nursing staff effectively and timely around issues related to patient care and condition
  • Receive and direct Medical Staff, personnel, patients, and visitors
